Hey Reader,
Last week, while in Los Angeles for an event, I went back to the walkway in Venice where I first saw that bright yellow END sign six years ago.
The one that inspired the opening story in my book… which is the anchor of my "Choose Your Ending" keynotes.
It was my first time back since that day in 2019, and I was filled with anticipation as I retraced my steps, imagining what it would feel like to see it again.
When I got there… imagine my surprise to see the pole—but no sign!
If you’ve read Mastering the Moments or heard me speak, you know I always thought the sign was oddly placed anyway. “END?” At the edge of the beach?!
Looks a lot more like a beginning to me.
So… I went ahead and fixed it for them:
Silliness aside, here’s what hit me:
What if the sign had been missing that day in 2019?
If I hadn’t seen it, I wouldn’t have had that insight… or that story… and maybe you and I wouldn’t even be connected today.
Maybe. Maybe not.
How many times have you seen that in your life?
Once again, I was reminded of a truth I’ve seen play out again and again:
Everything shows up exactly when you need it—and then, at some point, it’s gone.
Everything is temporary.
Life is a journey of endings, beginnings, and a whole lot of space in between. (I think that would make a great subtitle for a book! 😉
As much as I wanted to see that sign again, it wasn’t meant to be.
In the moment I stood there looking at that empty pole, I realized:
That moment in 2019 was what it needed to be.
This moment in 2025 was what it needed to be.
The right thing—right now (then)—was to let go.
And that’s the question I want to leave with you today:
What is the right thing, right now... for you?

If you find yourself standing in front of your own “missing sign” right now… wondering why something you were expecting is gone…
Maybe it’s because you don’t need it anymore.
Maybe it’s because there’s a new beginning ahead you can’t yet see.
Trust that the right thing, right now, is right here in front of you—and you have everything you need to take it.
