Stop chasing peace... and CREATE it

Published 13 days ago • 3 min read

Hello, my friend,

I hope this message finds you well as you juggle the inevitably busy moments in your life. Today, I want to share a thought that really hit home for me recently:

"You won't find peace by chasing it. You'll find it when you create it."

In other words, it's not something to pursue, but to practice. Moment by moment. Breath by breath. Choice by choice.

In the past few weeks, my life has been jam-packed with events, deadlines, and to-dos. I'm betting you can relate.

(I don't like to say "busy." I prefer to say "full"—because it all comes by choice, and it's lots of good stuff.)

Last week I told you about moving into our new home. Before that, I had an amazing speaking gig in Reno that reminded me why I do what I do: to connect with people like you, share stories, and learn together.

At that event, I was intentional about leaning into my story in a way that I've never done before. I also wanted to make sure the audience knew it was about them, not about me. That's why it was so gratifying to see feedback like this:

I'm so honored and grateful for the opportunity to do this work... on stage and in your inbox.

After the event and the move, Megan's son started his travel baseball season, and wow, that's a whole new level of scheduling fun. The weekends zip by like a fastball—strike three, and it’s Monday again!

In seasons like this, we often catch ourselves saying, "I can't wait for things to slow down." Understandably.

But here's a fun fact: life's not slowing down. It's speeding up! That means today is the slowest day we're going to get. Let that sink in.

Knowing this, then instead of waiting for the next quiet moment, why not make one?

Taking my own advice, this morning, I took a little time to walk in the woods. It was just a short walk, less than 30 minutes, but it made a big difference. It was my way of pressing the pause button on life's remote control.

That doesn't help you, though.

I share all of this because I want to encourage you to find your own way to press pause.

Check out this clip from my talk in Reno, where I talked about the importance of finding calm in the midst of the chaos.

Where can you find your peace or calm?

Maybe you can't get away to the woods, but what if, on your drive home, instead of scrolling through emails or texts at every red light, you could take that time to just breathe and enjoy being where you are?

While the world says the only way to keep up is by moving faster, I say the only way to keep up is by slowing down.

Take a deep breath in, hold it, let it out, and let yourself just chill for a minute.

Finding a little quiet time isn't just a break—it's the first step toward feeling joyful again.

I'd love to hear how you're finding ways to sneak in a little peace during your busy days. Got any tricks or funny stories? Your experiences not only inspire but also remind us all that we're in this together.

Wishing you some peaceful moments today.

Up we go—

Hello Reader, Nice to see you here in the ole inbox again. Thanks for checking in. I've got two mantras that I hope will inspire you today—one classic and one soon to be. Here's the classic: Don't give up. You've probably heard that a million times, but it's fresh on my mind because I just announced that I'm kicking off the Toastmasters International 100th Annual Convention this summer in Anaheim, CA! As I celebrate 25 years in the speaking business (this month!), it's a huge honor to join...

Hello, my friend, I'd like to share something about what I've been feeling lately, not because what I'm feeling should matter so much to you, but because I hope that in sharing what I'm feeling, perhaps I can bear witness to what you've felt yourself—whether recently or presently. I speak about navigating change and adapting and thriving in the midst of ever-changing circumstances, but I have a confession to make... I don't like change. I don't always do well with change. Change is hard for...

Hello Reader, Welcome to April. April?!! One quarter of the year is complete. The second quarter is underway. How are you feeling about all of it? If you haven't already, this is a good space to pause, take a breath, and take inventory of where you are and what you've accomplished. Then, remember your vision, goals, or intention from the beginning of the year and compare... Are you on track? Off track? Have your priorities shifted? Wherever you are, it's okay. "This" is part of it. As Steve...
