[MTM] Everyone wants change—few CHOOSE it

This week’s reflection...

It’s Tuesday.

The holidays are officially behind us.
Out-of-office replies are gone. (Gentle reminder if needed. 😉)
Calendars are filling up again.

And with that comes a familiar feeling:

Okay… now what?

We all say we want change.

More clarity.
More peace.
More momentum.
More alignment between who we are and how we’re living or leading.

But here’s the truth most people don’t want to face:

Desire alone doesn’t create change.

You can want things deeply and still stay exactly where you are.

Because change doesn’t happen when you want it.

It happens when you decide.

For years, I’ve shared a simple formula:

Desire + Decision = Change

(Turn to page 49 of Mastering the Moments.)

But there’s a part of that equation most people skip.

After you decide what you want to create this year, there’s a more important—and more uncomfortable—question waiting underneath:

What has to end for that decision to become real?

Not what you should start.
Not what you should add.
But what you’re willing to let go of.

A belief that once protected you—but now limits you.
A habit that feels familiar—but quietly drains you.
An expectation you’ve outgrown—but haven’t released.

This is where change usually breaks down.

Because most of us want the future…
without ending our relationship with the past.

We want clarity without discomfort.
Momentum without release.
A new chapter without closing the old one.

But it doesn’t work that way.

Every real breakthrough begins with an ending.

The leaders who practice Radical Adaptability best understand this.

They don’t just want change.

They choose it.

And then—often quietly, without ceremony—they decide what no longer gets to come with them.

So here’s the invitation for this week...

Not for the year.
Not for your entire life.
Just for this moment.

What belief are you ready to stop carrying?
What pattern are you willing to interrupt?
What expectation is asking to be released?

You don’t have to solve everything today.

You just have to tell the truth—honestly and gently—about one thing that’s run its course.

Because the future you want isn’t built by trying harder.

It’s built the moment you decide…
this ends now.

And in that same moment...
this moment matters.

Give it a try, and see what happens.

Up we go—

P.S. I posted a short video version of this message on LinkedIn and Instagram if you’d like to view it or share it. (And add me as a connection if we’re not already!)
