What Are You No Longer Willing to Carry?
September 1 has the energy of a beginning.
A new month. A fresh page. Another chance to set goals, build habits, and decide what we’re going to do next.
But before you add something new, there may be a more important question:
What are you no longer willing to carry?
I recently asked a room full of people to consider an ending they hadn’t been considering before.
Their answers stayed with me.
Some were ready to end packed schedules and raise their rates.
Some wanted to stop working alone and start building community.
Others wrote about leaving jobs, reducing hours, asking for help, releasing relationships, speaking up, or finally pursuing work they had been talking themselves out of.
And some simply said:
I’m not sure yet.
That may be the most honest answer of all.
THIS ENDS NOW
We often feel pressure to identify the big change immediately. To make the decision. Announce the plan. Take the leap.
But an ending often begins more quietly.
It begins when you notice that something is costing more than it gives.
A routine that has become exhaustion.
A comfortable role that has become confinement.
A belief that once protected you but now keeps you small.
A way of working that still produces results—but is no longer producing the life you want.
You don’t have to force an ending today.
THIS MOMENT MATTERS
As this new month begins, you might sit with three questions:
What is costing me more to continue than it would cost me to change?
What might become possible if I stopped carrying it?
What is one small action that would create space for what’s next?
Sometimes adaptability isn’t about adding more.
Sometimes it begins with making room.
Up we go—
P.S. If you don’t know what needs to end yet, pay attention to what repeatedly leaves you depleted, resentful, disconnected, or smaller than you know yourself to be. The answer may already be trying to get your attention.
