It was a normal Monday morning. Getting the kids off to school, taking out the trash, and—I’ll spare you the details—cleaning up after the dog.
Then came the moment I was looking forward to—a quiet reset.
Coffee in hand, I sat down in my office chair to review some materials from a course I took years ago, determined to inject some positivity into the day.
Before I opened the workbook, though, I made the fateful decision to scroll LinkedIn “just for a minute.”
You know where this is going.
The first post was helpful business advice. “Ah yes, I should do better at that,” I thought, adding a new item to my mental to-do list.
Then came a post from speaker coach promoting her mastermind event. “Look at her. I should be doing that.” (Hello, envy.)
Then came a post from a speaker friend about transforming a client’s culture. “He’s so much better than me. How long can I keep up this charade?” (Nice to see you again, imposter syndrome.)
And that’s when I stopped myself.
This wasn’t producing clarity. This wasn’t cultivating calm. This wasn’t helpful at all. This was noise.
I set down my phone, opened the workbook, and got back on track. As I read and reflected on how the lessons applied to my life, two guiding questions I’ve been using for years came to mind:
- What is the path to my greatest growth?
- What is the path to serving at the highest level?
Those questions lifted my thoughts to a higher plane. They reconnected me with my vision. They inspired three more simple but powerful questions:
- What do I want to achieve?
- What do I want to experience?
- What do I want to give?
I thought about life, marriage, parenting, speaking.
Someone once said, “Pain pushes until vision pulls.” It’s so true.
With new—or renewed—intentions in mind, I asked the final question: Who do I need to become?
I wrote new affirmations in my journal and got up with a clarity that changed my energy and my outlook for the day—and ultimately for the year ahead.
I was reminded yet again:
Everything can change in a moment.
And that brings me to you.
You know I only share my story because in it, I know you’ll find yours.
So let me ask you: Where in your life or work are you feeling stuck, scattered, or overwhelmed? Could asking yourself these same questions help you regain focus and direction?
- What do you want to achieve?
- What do you want to experience?
- What do you want to give?
- And most importantly: Who do you need to become to make it happen?
Take a moment to reflect. Write it down. Because everything can change in a moment—when you decide to make it so.
A Thanksgiving Reflection
Let’s make this even more timely and practical...
This week many of us will gather with friends and family—familiar people, familiar settings. Have you ever noticed how easy it is to fall into old patterns in those moments? You might find yourself acting like a kid again around your parents or falling into old dynamics with siblings.
As you head into Thanksgiving, consider asking yourself the same questions:
- What do I want to experience?
- What do I want to give?
- Who do I want (or need) to be?
It’s a simple practice that can shift your energy and help you show up with more intention, even in familiar spaces.
Closing Thoughts
When you take the time to pause, reflect, and “reboot,” you realize the power of a single moment to change the course of your day—or your life.
Because I’ve experienced this over and over again myself—and I’ve heard story after story of how powerful it is for others (like Heather who said after completing Rock the Reboot, ”I've just finished the 5 week course and have a whole new outlook”) I want to implore you again...
If you’re feeling stuck or ready for a reboot, don’t miss this chance to join Rock the Reboot at our lowest price ever, AND a signed copy of Mastering the Moments... even if you want to store it away for January 1.
