Focus + Flexibility = Success

Hello Reader,

Welcome to April.

April?!!

One quarter of the year is complete.

The second quarter is underway.

How are you feeling about all of it?

If you haven't already, this is a good space to pause, take a breath, and take inventory of where you are and what you've accomplished.

Then, remember your vision, goals, or intention from the beginning of the year and compare...

Are you on track? Off track? Have your priorities shifted?

Wherever you are, it's okay. "This" is part of it.

As Steve Ross told us in a painting workshop, "Don't worry if it doesn't look like anything yet."

Nothing is broken, nothing has failed, unless you stop here. The invitation is to check your progress, recalibrate, and keep going.

If you need to, this is the perfect time to reboot.

I'm just back from speaking to an amazing group of mental health professionals and equine specialists in Reno, Nevada, and I shared the importance of staying clear on where you're going, while remaining flexible in how you get there.

Focus and Flexibility.

Can they really coexist?

If you ask me, they're two sides of the same coin.

Being flexible doesn't mean you abandon your desires. To the contrary, it asks that you understand them more deeply.

Maybe you've experienced some changes or even significant challenges in the first quarter of 2024. At first blush, we often see these as obstacles that prevent us from living the life we want.

Is it possible, though, that the obstacles are exactly what we need to push us to dig even deeper into what we really want?

Ten years ago, I went into the year focused on what I wanted to accomplish in my business. A family medical crisis foiled my plans and demanded I embrace flexibility.

If you compare where I was at the end of that year to where I wanted to be at the beginning, it would appear that I failed. What the crisis did, though, was cause me to look even closer at my life and decide what mattered most.

I wanted happiness. I wanted freedom.

Nothing I could change in my business would give me that. The change that needed to happen was in my personal life. But I would have likely pushed it to the back burner for another year if not for that crisis.

  • What do you really want to experience in your life or work?
  • What changes do you need to make in order to make your desire your reality?
  • Is there one change that would change everything... if only you could make it?

As 2024 rolls on, as we enter into the second quarter, let us do so with a renewed sense of calm, with even sharper clarity on what we truly want, with the courage to press through the discomfort, and with the confidence to keep going. The ultimate rewards are always reserved for those who keep going.

Finally, let us remember that we never, ever have to do it alone. Let us find connection in our shared experience, and from that connection, let us embrace the power of community. Together, we will rise. Always.

Hit reply if you need help. That's what I'm here for.

If you happen to be new to our community, I'm so glad you found us. If you've been here a long time, I'm so glad you've stayed.

Thank you for being here, and thank you for allowing me to serve you.

Up we go—
